Number pyramid worksheets for kids
In a number pyramid, each brick is the sum of the two bricks below it. Children fill in the gaps, practising addition (and later subtraction) inside a puzzle instead of a list of sums.
Free to print for home and class, in five levels from age 4 to 10, every one with an answer key. Builds addition, subtraction and number sense.
Number pyramids for 4–5 year olds
The smallest pyramids have three rows and small numbers. Counters, beads or fingers are fine. Ask "what do these two make?" for each brick.
Number pyramids for 6–7 year olds
Some bricks now need working backwards: if the top is 9 and one brick is 4, what is the other? This is early algebra, and children love cracking it.
Number pyramids for 8–10 year olds
Bigger pyramids and larger numbers need a plan. Ask your child which brick to solve first and why.
Questions parents ask
What is a number pyramid?
A triangle of bricks where each brick equals the sum of the two below it. Some bricks are empty and the child works them out.
What maths does it practise?
Addition to begin with, then missing-number subtraction, which builds early algebra thinking.
Are answers included?
Yes. Every pyramid is checked to be solvable and comes with a full answer key.
